N-Gage showcases motion capture technique in a 3D animated fighting game

ONE for N-Gage, by Nokia Games Publishing, challenges its players to confront their opponents in a unique environment where different fighting techniques and styles are created by motion capture. ONE features 3D animation and high-quality graphics with customizable characters. It offers a head-to-head multiplayer experience in Bluetooth gaming allowing players to compete with each other, and share and compare their scores in the N-Gage Arena.

Recognized for its 3D performance, ONE is unique in mobile gaming as it takes advantage of motion capture techniques usually reserved for console games and movies. The movements of a real martial artist performing kicks and other moves have been recorded and used to animate the characters in ONE.

“Making ONE was a learning experience for me, both as a martial artist and as an artist studying shape and form,” says Tommy Carruthers, the man behind the motion captured fighting techniques of ONE. He has over 30 years of experience in martial arts. “ONE connects the flow of motion into how the flow goes between two people. It’s a combination of forces that complement and work in union with each other”.

ngage_one_screenshot.jpgONE players will be tested in various locations around the world, from the dark alleys of New York to the exotic beaches of the Caribbean. High-quality 3D graphics enables players to see even movements of the fighters’ clothes. There are altogether 30 opponents to fight against, in seven different locations, and an online world ranking system that shows who the true ONE is.

ONE is now available at www.n-gage.com, launching together with a global online tournament hosted by N-Gage Arena.

The world’s first mobile detective game, Dirk Dagger and the Fallen Idol by Nokia Games Publishing, is now available on N-Gage. The Film Noir backdrop involves players in a world of mystery with its enthralling and humorous storyline, where everything is not as it seems. The main character, private eye Dirk Dagger, takes the player through a strange quandary, along the way solving the mystery of a stolen statue, a murder and a complicated account of an accidental penguin-related death.

During the course of the game, players guide Dirk through a set of mini-games. For example, the player can use the camera on the device to snap a photo of a character. The photo can then be used as incriminating evidence on behalf of a client.

This title is all about reinventing the adventure game genre on mobile. A unique one-button camera-based control allows players to view surroundings of the scenes in a more intuitive way. Nokia Snake game inspires human snake

The making of Snakes Subsonic for N-Gage viral campaign

Snake, the most iconic mobile game franchise of all time, was the inspiration behind what could be arguably the world’s longest human snake. The streets of Lisbon, Portugal set the scene for the stop-motion film titled ‘Get out and play’ where more than one thousand volunteers took part in forming the famous snake.

The film begins with a young man sitting down for breakfast when he suddenly becomes part of a human snake game. While making angular movements throughout his neighborhood, he runs into people on the streets that then join the rapidly-growing snake. As he continues his journey, the snake grows substantially to include a flying cheerleader, a postal worker, office staff and many others.

The idea behind the film was to bring the playfulness and ease-of-use of the latest Snake incarnation to life. To accomplish this, the creative team sought inspiration from home-made stop-motion animations. With the create-it-yourself spirit of the internet, the film was shot frame by frame in stop-motion without digital effects.

“It is the simplicity of gameplay that first made Snake ideal for mobile phones,” said Oskar Bård, director of HobbyFilm. “Stop-motion animations are very basic and you can make extraordinary things happen without a lot of digital tinkering. The same concept applies to the new Snakes Subsonic for N-Gage.”

Snake first came to the market in the late 1970s and its popularity grew in the late 1990s with integration into Nokia mobile phones. A handful of Snakes products have since been released for Nokia devices and the improved 3D version Snakes Subsonic is now available through the new N-Gage mobile games service at http://www.n-gage.com

“Snakes Subsonic delivers the next evolution in mobile puzzle games,” said Dr Mark Ollila, head of games publishing, Nokia. “It’s an exciting combination of accessible gameplay fused with stylized presentation, resulting in a rollercoaster ride in puzzle solving unlike anything else on mobile.”
